Talk instead of type. It stays on your phone.
Talk, don't type. No account — transcription stays on your iPhone. Audio is not uploaded. Free to start. Pro is $3.99 once, not a subscription. iPhone 15 Pro or later.
Download FreeBlank pages stopped you. The cloud stopped the honest stuff.
You sit down to type. Two lines. Then you lose steam midway through. Not laziness — just friction. You think faster than you can write. By the time the sentence is on the page, it isn't the same thought.
The apps that stuck turned journaling into homework. Filler entries that serve no purpose but to keep the streak alive. A line about not wanting to write, so the number doesn't break. You quit. You start again only when you already feel like you're breaking.
The ones that promised insight wanted an account, a cloud, or an AI reading what you wrote. That never felt safe for the honest stuff. You dance around it. You send yourself a WhatsApp voice note and delete it. Too paranoid to start.
Then it's 2 AM. Thursday's advice doesn't translate. The same spiral shows up disguised as a brand new problem. You dump it on whoever is still awake, or you lie there and ruminate.
A week later you can't see yourself. Pages exist. None of them connect. You walk into the next session with "I don't know, it was fine."
The belief underneath: a real journal has to be typed, done every day, and — if it's digital — uploaded somewhere smart. Handwriting is too slow. Daily is a streak. The server is why you never write the true thing. All three can be wrong at once.
A journal does not have to be typed, daily, or sitting on a server.
Talk it out so you don't dump it on someone else.
Conviction is a private on-device voice journal for the space between therapy or coaching sessions. Talk. It becomes text on your iPhone. Nobody else can read it.
Ten minutes of talking instead of ten hours of rumination. You say the thing you would never type, because it never leaves the phone. A week later you can see the same spiral, not a brand-new crisis. You walk into the next session with the actual week. I'm Phillip — independent developer in Berlin, not a clinician. I built this because a blank page was too slow and a cloud journal was never safe for the honest stuff. It is not therapy.
How it works
Talk. No account.
Open it and speak. Transcription runs on your iPhone. Audio is not uploaded. Airplane mode is fine.
Read it back. See what repeats.
Entries you can actually review. Pattern spotting and 27-emotion tracking run on the device — so a week later you are not starting from zero.
Use a tool, or close the phone.
The Mirror, Safe Harbor, Pattern Lab, shadow work — if you want structure. Then go. Take the honest week to therapy. Leave the rumination on the device.
Talk. Keep it on the phone. See what repeats.
Talk instead of type.
You think faster than you can write. Tap once and talk. Transcription happens on your iPhone. Audio is not uploaded.
- Just talk Tap once and speak. No blank page. No prompt to fill. Out at thinking speed.
- Text on your phone Your voice becomes text on the device. Nothing leaves. You can actually re-read it.
- An entry, not a lost memo Dated. Organised. There next week — not buried in Voice Memos.
Your journal shouldn't be on a server.
No account. No email. Airplane mode works. Optional Apple Sign-In only if you want encrypted iCloud backup or Health. Audio is not uploaded.
- Stays on your phone Transcription, pattern spotting, emotion analysis run on the iPhone. Audio is not uploaded.
- No account Open the app and talk. No signup, no email, no create-an-account-to-continue.
- Backup if you want it Apple Sign-In is optional. iCloud backup is encrypted. Skip it and stay fully local.
The same spiral, not a brand-new problem.
A week later you couldn't remember any of it. Conviction reads your own words — on your phone — and surfaces what keeps coming back. Then you can take it to a tool, or to Thursday's session. Not instead of it.
- What keeps showing up Pattern spotting across your entries. On-device. From your words, not a template.
- Work the thought The Mirror — CBT/DBT thought work attached to what you actually said.
- Name the feeling 27 emotions, not a five-face slider. Shadow work when you want the part you usually skip.
And so much more.
Beyond fine. Name what you actually feel.
Every entry is read for 27 emotions on your phone. Not just good or bad — guilt vs. shame, nostalgia vs. grief, excitement vs. anxiety. Mood Flow shows how that shifts over time.
Miss a day. Miss a week. Nothing snaps to zero.
Conviction uses Momentum, not a streak. Filler entries that exist only to keep a number alive are the problem. Come back when you have something to say.
Tools for the gap between sessions.
The Mirror (CBT/DBT), Safe Harbor (somatic grounding), Pattern Lab (chain analysis), The Council (assertiveness and validation), shadow work. Use them between therapy or coaching. They are not a replacement. The person who built this is not a clinician.
A week later, you can see yourself.
Talking is fast. Voice memos are impossible to review. Conviction keeps the dump as text and looks across entries for what repeats — on the device. So the spiral is visible as a spiral.

Questions you should ask
Is my journal actually private?
Transcription, pattern spotting, and emotion analysis run on your iPhone. Audio is not uploaded. There is no account. Optional Apple Sign-In exists only for encrypted iCloud backup or Apple Health. If you skip that, it stays fully local — including in airplane mode.
Do I need iPhone 15 Pro or later?
Yes. Conviction requires Apple Intelligence, which means iPhone 15 Pro or later. That is how the on-device work runs. If you don't have that phone, this app is not for you — don't download it hoping it will stretch.
Is this a replacement for therapy?
No. It is for the space between therapy or coaching sessions. Phillip Paul, who built it in Berlin, is an independent developer, not a clinician. If you are in crisis, get professional help. Conviction will not do that job.
Is Pro a subscription?
No. Free to start. Pro is $3.99 once — not a subscription, not an annual plan. No credit card to download.
Do I have to create an account?
No. No email. No password. Open it and talk. Apple Sign-In is optional, and only if you want encrypted iCloud backup or Apple Health.
Does it work in airplane mode?
Yes. That's the point. No server is required to talk, transcribe, or store an entry.
Will it guilt me for missing a day?
No streaks. Conviction uses Momentum, which does not treat a missed day as a broken promise. Filler entries that exist only to keep a number alive are the thing we are not doing.
Can I export my journal?
Yes. Take your data with you. Your words are yours. No lock-in.
Talk for ten minutes. Skip ten hours of rumination.
